ARCTIC FEMALE LEADERS

Working with organizations like Arctic Counsil, AMAP and Kristin Harila (the Norwegian world record mountain climber) in the Arctic to raise awareness onthe changes in the Arctic is important. The work with the Arctic Youth Expedition has been so inspiring! Next year the Expedition will take place in Svalbard.

Polheim is Hilde’s Arctic community hub located on Svalbard, designed to bring together like-minded explorers, scientists, and adventurers in a shared space of discovery and collaboration.

Bamsebu is a historic trapper’s cabin in Svalbard, where Hilde made history as the first of two women to overwinter there alone. Located in the remote Arctic wilderness, Bamsebu became her home and base for climate research, wildlife observation, and global outreach through Hearts in the Ice.

RICH ARCTIC WILDLIFE

With more polar bears than people, the remote wilderness of Svalbard also hosts reindeer, Arctic foxes, and vast seabird colonies. The fragile ecosystem is a unique but vulnerable habitat, highlighting the urgent need for conservation.
