Polheim Climate Hub Svalbard, Founded by Hilde

Polheim is more than a physical space — it's a meeting point for climate action, conversation, and connection.

Founded by Hilde Fålun Strøm, Polheim serves as a living hub for sharing Arctic knowledge with the world.

From here, Hilde hosts students, researchers, artists, and changemakers — both virtually and in-person

Adapting To Rapid Change

We’ve seen polar bears on Svalbard hunting reindeer—a behavior that wasn’t common before.

Polar bears are extraordinary predators, but their primary hunting strategies are tied to sea ice. Turning to reindeer suggests desperation, a shift driven by hunger and the lack of their usual prey.

This adaptation highlights how the Arctic’s entire food web is being disrupted by climate change. These changes aren’t just localized to Svalbard—they’re affecting the entire Arctic Circle.

Sharing with students around the world

Hilde shares insights of living three decades on the Northernmost settlement on Earth. This photo is from Costa Rica earlier this year.
